Demanding a separate university, students of seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University ended today’s protest, announcing a road blockade to resume tomorrow, Wednesday, from 9:00 AM. They left Science Laboratory Road after 5:00 PM today(Tuesday).
To press for their demand, the students blocked this crucial intersection from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM today, halting traffic in the area for a couple of hours. This led to a traffic jam on Mirpur Road, causing significant inconvenience for many people.
Abdur Rahman, the spokesperson for the protesters, told the journalists, “ To establish an independent university, a "University Transformation Commission" must be formed. Until that commission is formed, we will continue our protest. As part of the movement, we will block this road tomorrow from 9:00 pm -5:00 pm.”
In February 2017, seven government colleges in Dhaka were affiliated with Dhaka University. These colleges are Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul College, Begum Badrunnesa Government College, Government Bangla College in Mirpur, and Government Titumir College.
