Former BNP leader Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury was arrested in the hands of a team of DB police on Thursday from his Banani residence in the capital.
Joint Commissioner of Police Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan has confirmed the matter to reporters saying the taken to DB headquarters.
A day earlier, he and his wife were prevented from travelling to Thailand at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury resigned from all posts in BNP in 2015. About three years later, he joined Bikalpa Dhara, a political party led by another former BNP leader AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury. In September last year, he became the chairperson of Trinamool Congress, a political party founded by former BNP leader Nazmul Huda.
Later, the Election Commission allowed Trinamool Congress to take part in the 7 January general elections.
