A Meherpur court on Sunday sentenced two people to death for killing a woman in Gangni upazila of the district in 2018, reports BSS.
Additional District and Session Judge Ripoti Kumar Biswas delivered the verdict to Basharul Islam and Fazr Ali, residents of Shahebnagar village of the upazila.
According to the prosecution, on August 5 in 2018, the woman who was a nurse went missing from Bamondi Bazar of the upazila. Following the incident, her daughter filed a general diary with Gangni Police Station and later filed an abduction case accusing some unnamed people.
Later, police arrested Basharul and Fazr Ali and on their confessional statements police recovered the body of the woman from the house of Basharul at Shahebnagar village on January 24 in 2019.
Police pressed the charge sheet accusing three people.
Testifying witnesses and evidence, the court pronounced the verdict in presence of Basharul and Fazr Ali. Another accused Yaqub Hossain died during the hearing of the case, said Additional Public Prosecutor Shahidul Haque.
