This Mother’s Day, while we celebrate all moms, it's especially important to support new mothers who are navigating sleepless nights and endless baby duties.
Skincare might seem like a luxury in this busy phase, but with a few simple steps, new moms can still take care of their skin without spending much time, reports Hindustan Times.
Dr Shifa Yadav, an Indian dermatologist at Artemis Hospitals, India, shares five practical skincare tips for new moms that are effective and easy to follow:
Keep it basic
Use a gentle, hydrating face wash once or twice a day, and follow up with a good moisturiser. This quick routine takes only two to three minutes. Toners are optional.
Never skip sunscreen
Even indoors, sunlight can damage your skin. Apply a lightweight SPF 30 or higher daily. Tinted sunscreens offer added glow and coverage.
Nighttime care
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser before bed, apply a serum with ingredients like hyaluronic acid or squalane, and finish with a moisturiser.
Weekly pampering
Take 15–20 minutes a week to exfoliate with a light scrub or enzyme peel. A sheet mask during nursing can hydrate your skin effortlessly.
Use multipurpose products
Opt for products that multitask — like a moisturiser with SPF, tinted lip balm for both lips and cheeks, or a cleansing balm that removes makeup and cleanses.
Dr Shifa also recommends a nutritious diet rich in vitamins, antioxidants, omega-3s, and lean proteins — along with quality sleep — to help skin glow from within.
Even small self-care steps can help new moms feel more refreshed and confident.
