US President Donald Trump said a US weapons officer rescued after his F-15E fighter jet was shot down over Iran had sustained injuries but was expected to recover, reports Al Jazeera.
Trump said the US military had been monitoring the location of the officer, a colonel, “24 hours a day” and had planned the rescue operation carefully.
“Dozens of aircraft, armed with the most lethal weapons in the world, were sent to retrieve him,” Trump said, adding, “He sustained injuries, but he will be just fine.”
In a separate statement, Trump confirmed the rescue operation had been completed successfully.
“Over the past several hours, the United States Military pulled off one of the most daring search and rescue operations in US history… and I am thrilled to let you know he is now safe and sound,” he said.
Trump also claimed the operation demonstrated US air dominance, saying the mission was carried out without any American personnel killed or wounded.
