Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, “We have worked with the debt burden that we got from the fascist and previous governments. That is why the budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year is not perfect. Even then, we are scrutinizing and seeing that two years are needed to resolve the economic crisis.”
The Finance Minister said this at the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Budget Dialogue program in Gulshan of the capital on Sunday afternoon.
He said, “Even if the people of the country pay a little money, they will have to come under the tax net. But there is no reason to fear it.”
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, “The previous government had created 1,300 projects for its own interests, many of which we have canceled. Many projects are 60 to 80 percent completed, which is of no use.”
The minister said, “The private sector cannot survive by taking money from local banks at 11 to 13 percent interest. Then, it’s very painful for the government for sure. However, the government will get out of taking money from this sector.”
He also said, "In the selection of the family card, no political affiliation was considered. Some people say that those who do politics will benefit from it. But we did not do anything like that."
