The government will keep an eye on the marginal leather collectors to ensure that they get fair prices, and the government will intervene if necessary.
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has said this on Wednesday.
“If there is a slow pace in leather purchases, the government will allow the export of wet blue leather if necessary,” he said.
He said this in response to questions from journalists after a view-sharing meeting with tea workers in Sylhet on Wednesday afternoon.
At the time, he also said that the government will keep an eye on the marginal leather collectors to ensure that they get fair prices, and the government will also intervene if necessary.
The minister also said, “The main purpose of these initiatives is to properly preserve leather and increase export earnings.”
He also said that the upcoming budget will create a business-friendly environment and attract investment.
