In the first 15 days of February, expatriate Bangladeshis sent a total of 131 crore 23 lakh 30 thousand US dollars in remittances through legal channels, amounting to 16,000 crore Bangladeshi Taka (at an exchange rate of 123 Taka per dollar). This translates to a daily average of 8.74 million dollars, or 1.76 billion Taka.
This data, released by the central bank on Sunday, reveals the remittance inflow through various banking channels. State-owned banks received 466.55 million dollars, specialized banks saw 887.90 million dollars, private banks brought in 753.9 million dollars, and foreign banks contributed 33 million dollars.
From July to February 15 of the 2024-25 fiscal year, remittances totaling 1.727 billion US dollars have entered the country. In the previous months, the flow of remittances was substantial: in July, 1913.7 million dollars arrived, followed by 222 million dollars in August, 240 million dollars in September, 239 million dollars in October, 220 million dollars in November, 264 million dollars in December, and 219 million dollars in January.
The steady inflow of over two billion dollars in remittances for six consecutive months follows the assumption of responsibility by the current interim government.
