The Coast Guard and Naval Police have recovered the bodies of five people from a cargo ship anchored in the Meghna River in Chandpur. The bodies of five people were first recovered from different cabins of the ship anchored in the Majhirchar area of the Meghna River in Haimchar of the district at 4 pm on Monday.
Later, three people were rescued dead and two died on the way to the hospital. In addition, the condition of another person is also critical. The death toll has increased to 7.
Chandpur Naval Police Superintendent Syed Mushfiqur Rahman confirmed that the bodies were found on the anchored ship at around 3:15 pm.
The ship was heading to Sirajganj from Chattogram. However, the ship was anchored in the Harina area.
The deceased are identified as Master Kibria, Driver Salauddin (45), Chukani Aminul Munshi, Greaser Sajibul Islam (25), Laskar Azizul and Majedul. The identity of one person is still unknown. They are hailed from Narail district. Only Master Kibria is from Faridpur.
Upon receiving the news, Mukur Chakma, ASP of Sadar and Hajiganj Circle, came to the emergency department of Chandpur Government General Hospital to inspect the scene. Jewel (28), who was in a critical condition, was sent to Dhaka when his physical condition deteriorated.
