Tencent launched a new integration on Sunday, connecting its popular WeChat messaging platform with the OpenClaw AI agent, intensifying its push into the rapidly expanding AI agent market in China, reports Reuters.
The new tool, called ClawBot, will appear as a contact within WeChat, allowing users — who total over 1 billion monthly active users — to connect directly with OpenClaw. Through this integration, users can send and receive commands to interact with the AI agent within the messaging interface.
OpenClaw, an open-source AI agent, has seen a surge in popularity for its ability to perform tasks such as transferring files and sending emails on behalf of users. The increased interest in AI agents has led tech firms to explore new business opportunities, despite concerns from authorities over security risks.
Tencent’s integration follows the launch of its own suite of AI tools earlier this month, which includes QClaw for individual users, Lighthouse for developers, and WorkBuddy for enterprises, marking a broader strategy to tap into various market segments.
Meanwhile, Alibaba launched its own AI platform, Wukong, last week, targeting enterprises with a system that coordinates multiple AI agents to handle complex business tasks like document editing and meeting transcription. In a similar move, Baidu (9888.HK) introduced several AI agents built on OpenClaw, expanding across desktop software, cloud services, and smart-home devices.
As the competition in AI intensifies, China’s tech giants are racing to integrate AI into their platforms, while regulatory scrutiny over the security and ethical risks of these technologies continues to grow.
