US memory chipmaker Micron Technology said Monday it plans to build a second semiconductor manufacturing facility in Taiwan at the Tongluo site it recently acquired from Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp, reports Reuters.
The company said the new facility will expand production of advanced DRAM products, including high-bandwidth memory (HBM), to support rapidly growing demand driven by artificial intelligence technologies.
Micron also confirmed it has completed the acquisition of Powerchip’s Tongluo P5 site. The planned second facility will be similar in scale to Micron’s existing fabrication plant in Miaoli County.
Construction of the new plant is scheduled to begin by the end of Micron’s fiscal 2026, the company said.
