OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman said on Monday that the ChatGPT-maker is working with the United States Department of Defense to amend parts of their existing agreement, reports Reuters.
“We have been working with the DoW (Department of War) to make some additions in our agreement to make our principles very clear,” Altman wrote in a post on X, using a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Pentagon.
Altman said one addition specifies that the Pentagon has affirmed OpenAI’s services will not be used by Defense Department intelligence agencies — for example, the National Security Agency — without a further modification to the contract.
Any provision of services to such agencies would require a follow-on amendment to the existing agreement, he added.
Last week, the AI firm announced a deal to deploy its technology within the Defense Department’s classified network.
