Microsoft said on Wednesday that it is on track to invest $50 billion by the end of the decade to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence in countries across the Global South, reports Reuters.
The announcement was made at the AI Summit in New Delhi, where leading executives from global AI companies are meeting with several world leaders this week. The term “Global South” typically refers to developing, emerging, or lower-income countries, primarily located in the southern hemisphere.
Microsoft has already made significant strides in the region, unveiling $17.5 billion in AI investments in India last year as part of its broader strategy to expand in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital markets.
The company said its expanded investment plans will focus on supporting AI infrastructure, research, education, and partnerships to enable technological adoption in emerging markets.
