British High Commissioner to Dhaka Sarah Cooke has pledged all-out support for the development of women's sports in Bangladesh.
British High Commissioner to Bangladesh expressed this interest during a courtesy call on State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
The matter was informed in a press release signed by Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Md. Nur Alam.
The bilateral meeting discussed improving the quality of women's sports in Bangladesh, making the youth skilled and strengthening sports diplomacy between the two countries.
Welcoming the British High Commissioner, the State Minister for Youth and Sports said, “Sports diplomacy can take the relations between the two countries to new heights. Our Prime Minister is very sincere about sports. We have recently started a nationwide 'Notun Kuri' sports program with the aim of exploring talent at the grassroots level. Under this program, adolescents aged 12 to 14 will be selected and sent to BKSP for advanced training.”
He said, “The current government is determined to bring positive changes in the country through sports and youth development. Sports are a powerful tool to eliminate inequality in society. We need technical assistance to build our sports industry. We want our coaches and players to get the opportunity to become more modern and world-class through technical assistance from the British government.”
During the meeting, British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke promised all-out cooperation from the UK in the development of women's sports.
She said, “The UK is keen to play a very supportive role in the development of women's sports. We can work together on sports like swimming, boxing and martial arts, especially with the Commonwealth Games in mind. In addition, by providing necessary assistance in the Paralympic Games, we want to ensure inclusion at every level of society, which will further strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries.”
