Nahid Rana's excellent 5 wickets-haul restricted New Zealand under 200 runs. In the second ODI, they were all out for 198 runs in 48.4 overs. Bangladesh's target in this match to survive the series is 199 runs.
New Zealand was under pressure from the start after winning the toss and opting to bat in Mirpur. Bangladesh took 2 wickets for just 28 runs in 10 overs of the power play. Nahid Rana took both of them. Taskin Ahmed and Shariful Islam bowled in a controlled manner at the beginning, both giving one maiden each in the first four overs.
Nahid came on the attack in the eighth over and got Henry Nicholls lbw for 13 runs. He had Will Young (7) caught by Soumya Sarkar on the first ball of the next over. This young pacer started well, taking two wickets for just 1 run.
Later, Soumya Sarkar dismissed captain Tom Latham (14). The Kiwis tried to make a comeback after losing 3 wickets for 52 runs. Nick Kelly and Muhammad Abbas put on a 56-run stand but could not post a big score.
Kelly, however, continued to fight and played an innings of 83 runs. However, after the set batters were dismissed, the New Zealand batting lineup quickly collapsed. They lost wickets quickly due to the blows of Rishad Hossain, Shariful Islam and Taskin Ahmed.
Nahid Rana completed his five-wicket haul by outing Jayden Lennox in his last over. He finished the innings with 5 wickets for 32 runs. This was the second five-wicket haul of his ODI career.
Earlier, he took 5 wickets for 24 runs against Pakistan at the same venue on March 11.
New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 198 runs.
