Former cricketer Mohammad Ashraful has had his contract as the batting coach of the Bangladesh national team extended for another year.
Ashraful was first appointed last year, initially for two series, with the understanding that he would remain with the team through the T20 World Cup. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has now extended his tenure until February 2027. He will begin his extended role with the upcoming series against Pakistan.
Confirming the news to the media on Sunday, Ashraful said, “I have a one-year contract with the Cricket Board as the national team’s batting coach.”
During his first tenure, Bangladesh played only one series under his guidance. The performances of Shanto and Miraj with the bat were satisfactory, but the team did not participate in the T20 World Cup thereafter.
Ashraful’s main challenge now lies ahead: improving the batting performance of the squad over the next year. Success in this endeavor could potentially see him continue as coach through the ODI World Cup as well.
