Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Asif Akbar has indicated that Shakib Al Hasan is prioritising Bangladesh’s upcoming tour of New Zealand as the uncertainty over his national team return continues.
“He will come, InshaAllah, very soon. When he will complete the fitness and selection rounds...he is currently giving more priority to the New Zealand tour,” Asif said.
His comments suggest that the veteran all-rounder is unlikely to return to the national side during the forthcoming Pakistan series, extending the wait for fans eager to see him back in Bangladesh colours.
Discussions surrounding Shakib’s comeback have intensified in recent weeks, with speculation that the Pakistan series could mark his return. However, the latest indication from the board points towards the tour of New Zealand as the more likely target for his comeback.
