Bangladesh national team head coach Phil Simmons admitted Bangladesh have emerged as one of the leading six-hitting sides (third in 2025) in T20 cricket, but a lack of consistency in pressure moments is preventing the Tigers from fully capitalising on their power game.
“Last year, they talked about West Indies six-hitting and India six-hitting, but we were third coming down to the end of 2025 in six-hitting in T20,” Simmons told Kalerkantha on Monday.
According to the Caribbean, the ability to dominate bowling attacks is already present within the squad.
“Because the talent is there, the ability is there. So, the ability to do the same things as the other teams is there,” he explained.
However, he pointed to one crucial shortcoming.
“But they do it a little more consistently in pressure situations, and that’s what we’ve got to work on now.”
The statistics underline a significant shift in Bangladesh’s batting identity, traditionally built on accumulation rather than brute force. Yet the former West Indies cricketer believes raw numbers alone do not win matches.
“I think once we start getting that and people start understanding the situation and grabbing that situation, we’re going to win a lot more matches than we’re winning now,” he said.
The head coach, who has been closely working with the national players, made it clear that the issue is not a shortage of skill but a matter of match intelligence.
“I’ve been with these players for a while now. My biggest thing with them is how we assess the game on the day,” the former West Indies skipper concluded. “I don’t think Bangladesh players lack talent, but I think the assessment of the situation on the day is what we have to work a lot more on now.”
