Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has banned former cricketer and women’s team manager Monjurul Islam from all cricket-related activities following an independent inquiry into sexual harassment allegations, reports Daily Sun.
BCB Women’s Wing chairperson Rubaba Dowla on Wednesday outlined the board’s decision, stressing that the inquiry, chaired by Justice Tariqul Hakim and including senior barristers, was thorough and evidence-based.
“Jahanara [Alam] had submitted written complaints, which we investigated. Based on the evidence, we concluded that some actions fell under the definition of sexual harassment as outlined in the Supreme Court guidelines. On that basis, the decision was taken to ban him from cricket operations under the BCB,” Rubaba told reporters.
She declined to specify which allegations were proven, emphasizing that the process had been exhaustive.
Asked about potential legal action, Rubaba said the board had sought legal advice and acted within its rights. “For now, the action taken is in line with that assessment,” she said.
The ban applies to all cricket under the BCB, including both men’s and women’s competitions. “In the corporate sector, there are strict procedures regarding sexual harassment, and I believe the BCB has taken strict action,” she added.
