The match between Pakistan and New Zealand in the Super Eights of the T20 World Cup was abandoned due to rain. As a result, both teams had to be content with one point.
Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday. However, the continuous rain that started immediately after the toss did not allow for play until the end.
The playing conditions set by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the T20 World Cup do not include extra days for the Super Eight matches. The games must be played on a specific day.
For a T20 match to take place, both teams had to bat at least 5 overs. If that was not possible, a Super Over would be played. The Super Over would continue until the match was decided. The Super Over was also not possible due to rain this time. Due to this, the points were shared between the two teams.
Pakistan advanced to the Super Eights by defeating the Netherlands, the United States and Namibia in the group stage. However, Babar Azam lost against arch-rivals India.
On the other hand, New Zealand lost to South Africa in Group B but defeated Afghanistan, United Arab Emirates and Canada to advance to the Super Eights.
