Bangladesh delivered a commanding statement, hammering Malaysia by 90 runs to storm into the semi-finals of the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars as Group B champions on Wednesday, reports Daily Sun.
The Bangladesh ‘A’ side sealed a third straight group-stage victory, finishing with a perfect six points from three matches.
The victory was headlined by an influential all-round display from Lata Mondal, who was named Player of the Match. Mondal scored a composed 48 runs and also chipped in with the ball, picking up one wicket to tilt the contest decisively in Bangladesh’s favour.
Speaking after the match, Mondal credited the collective effort behind the team’s unbeaten run.
“I would like to thank my team. We have qualified very well in three matches and reached the semi-final,” she said. “Everyone, please pray for us so that we can give our best in the semi-final, so that we can bring something back for the country.”
The campaign began with a tight four-run win over Sri Lanka Women, followed by a nerve-shredding three-wicket triumph against hosts Thailand Women in the final over.
Having already secured qualification, Bangladesh underlined their dominance by vanquishing Malaysia Women emphatically in the group finale.
They will face Pakistan Women in the semi-final, brimming with confidence and momentum.
