Aminul Haque, sports secretary of the central executive committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), convener of Dhaka North BNP and former captain of the national football team, has been called to take oath as a cabinet member under the technocrat quota.
A close source confirmed that the swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet will be held on Tuesday afternoon.
Aminul contested the 13th National Parliament election from the Dhaka-16 constituency with the BNP’s sheaf of paddy symbol but was defeated by Md. Abdul Baten, the scales-backed candidate nominated by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
Despite his loss, discussions had been ongoing about his possible inclusion in the cabinet. From the beginning, he was widely considered a frontrunner for the sports ministry under the technocrat quota. With the call to take oath now confirmed, party insiders believe he may be entrusted with the responsibility of the sports ministry, marking a new chapter in the former football captain’s public career.
