Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Secretary General Quader Gani Chowdhury said sports provide children with physical and mental strength and it also teaches them discipline, loyalty and patriotism.
Quader Gani said this at an award distribution ceremony of the annual sports competition, organised by Bangladesh Photojournalist Association at Hotel Imperial auditorium in the capital on Monday afternoon.
The journalists’ leader said a healthy body and a healthy mind increase interest in work and work speed as the sports are necessary to keep the body and mind healthy.
Sports stimulate physical and mental health of a person as well as compassion and leadership qualities, he observed.
Bangladesh Photojournalist Association President AKM Mohsin presided over the event.
He said sports also help develop children's creativity and imagination. It is unfortunate but true that children are not often seen on the playground anymore.
The journalist leader voiced concern and said a large number of children are overwhelmed by the pressure of studies and do not even get the opportunity to go to playground.
“Many people ignore sports. The feeling is that what will happen by playing sports! It is better to play a few games on your mobile or watch a little television! In this way, smartphones and corrupt have swallowed our future generation,” he said.
He underlined importance of introducing sports and annual sports competition in all schools and colleges.
