Bangladesh Under-19 Women produced a commanding performance to defeat arch-rivals India 2–0 in the SAFF U-19 Women’s Championship match in Pokhara, securing their second consecutive victory in the tournament.
On Monday India began the match on the front foot and threatened Bangladesh’s defence early. In the fifth minute, Pritika broke into the box from a through ball, but Bangladesh goalkeeper Yearzan Begum rushed off her line and denied the Indian forward at the last moment. A minute later, Pearl Fernandes came close again but failed to connect with a floating ball inside the box.
Bangladesh gradually settled into the game and started building attacks, mainly through the left wing with Mamni Chakma. The pressure paid off in the 29th minute when Mamoni’s dangerous free-kick from near the corner was partially cleared by Indian goalkeeper Munni, and captain Arpita Biswas reacted quickly to slot home the rebound.
The lead was doubled in the 40th minute as Trishna Rani delivered a cross from the right flank, which Alpi Akter calmly finished past two defenders. Alpi nearly scored her second moments later but missed from close range.
Bangladesh went into the break 2–0 ahead and maintained control throughout the second half. Their defence remained rock solid, the midfield dominated possession, and Yearzan Begum made important saves whenever India threatened.
Head coach Peter Butler also tested his squad by making five changes. The emphatic win confirmed Bangladesh’s authority in the tournament, making it two wins from two matches.
