Bangladesh started the SAFF Women's Under-19 Championship like a champion. Bangladesh thrashed Bhutan 12-0 in the opening match of the tournament in Pokhara of Nepal on Saturday.
Bangladesh was leading 4-0 in the first half.
In the last edition of this tournament, Bangladesh and India were joint champions. This time, to win the title, the BFF has given great importance to this age-based SAFF Championship and sent the head coach to Nepal, leaving the national team in Dhaka. Bangladesh has made a great start in that mission.
Bangladesh had to wait 27 minutes to get the first goal. Then the Bhutanese girls just picked the ball from the net after that. Bangladesh completely destroyed Bhutan by scoring four goals in the first half and eight goals in the second half.
Munki Akhter scored four goals, Trishna Rani and Alpi Akhter scored three, while captain Arpita Biswas and Mamuni Chakma scored one goal each. Bangladesh's girls scored 3 goals in injury time.
The top two teams in the points table will play in the final after the league play in the four-nation tournament. Bangladesh's next match is against India on February 2.
