Amid uncertainty over Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has publicly expressed support for Bangladesh. On Saturday, the ICC announced that Scotland would replace Bangladesh in the tournament. In response, the PCB hinted at a possible boycott.
Indian media outlet The Indian Express reported that the ICC could impose severe penalties on Pakistan if it refuses to participate. Possible sanctions include canceling bilateral series, denying no-objection certificates for foreign players in the Pakistan Super League, and exclusion from the Asia Cup.
The ICC said there is no credible security risk to Bangladesh’s team or fans in India and affirmed that changing the tournament schedule would compromise its integrity, fairness, and future precedents.
PCB President Mohsin Naqvi said Bangladesh has been treated unfairly and raised the issue at the ICC board meeting, emphasizing that rules should apply equally to all cricket-playing nations.
Regarding the potential boycott, Naqvi said the PCB will follow the Pakistani government’s instructions, with a final decision expected after the Prime Minister’s return. He confirmed that all preparations for a boycott are in place.
