The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has written to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) seeking to overturn the decision to host the men’s T20 World Cup games in India. However, officials say the appeal is unlikely to be heard, as it falls outside the committee’s remit.
Under BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul, the board made a last-ditch effort to approach the DRC, headed by English barrister Michael Beloff (King’s Counsel), after being cornered by the ICC’s ruling.
“Yes, BCB has approached the DRC as it wants to exhaust all its options. If the DRC rules against BCB, the only body left is the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland,” a BCB source told PTI on condition of anonymity.
The DRC is an independent arbitration body that resolves disputes involving ICC member boards, players, and officials, typically intervening only after all internal ICC processes are exhausted. It has come to the forefront amid the standoff between the BCB and ICC over Bangladesh’s request to move T20 World Cup matches to Sri Lanka.
However, experts say the move is unlikely to succeed. The Bangladeshi government opposes hosting matches in India due to security concerns. The ICC rejected Bangladesh’s request in a vote, with only Pakistan supporting the move among the 15 member boards. With a majority decision in place, the ruling is unlikely to be overturned.
Meanwhile, the ICC has kept Scotland on standby to replace Bangladesh in the tournament, with a formal announcement expected by Saturday.
