Rajshahi Warriors have won the final of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), beating Chattogram Challengers by a big margin of 63 runs on Friday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.
Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s century and Binura Fernando’s four-fer made the final easier for Rajshahi as they won a one-sided contest.
Rajshahi Warriors posted a competitive total of 174 for 4 after being asked to bat first. Rajshahi adopted a cautious approach early on. Openers Sahibzada Farhan and Tanzid focused on building a solid base. Their patience paid off as Rajshahi reached 40 without loss in the powerplay.
In the closing stages, Jimmy Neesham and Najmul Hossain Shanto added valuable runs and Rajshahi closed their innings at 174 for 4 after 20 overs.
For Chattogram Royals, Shoriful Islam and Mukidul Islam were the standout bowlers, each picking up two wickets.
Chattogram were never in the chase. They lost wickets at regular intervals from the beginning. Naim Sheikh (9 off 10 balls), Mahmudul Hasan Joy (0 off 2 balls) and Hasan Nawaz (11 off 7 balls) were dismissed within the powerplay, where Hasan Murad caused the main destruction, picking up two wickets. Binura Fernando took the other one.
Another opener Mirza Baig held one end but didn’t get any support from any batters. Eventually, Baig was dismissed after scoring 39 runs from 36 balls. Asif Ali tried with 21 runs from 16 balls but it was just enough to cross the 100-run mark. In the end, Rajshahi were bundled out for just 111 runs in 17.5 overs.
Binura Fernando was the standout bowler for Rajshahi with an outstanding figure of 4 wickets for just 9 runs in 4 overs. Hasan Murad took 3 wickets while Jimmy Neesham got two.
