Sylhet Titans pulled off a thrilling victory over Rangpur Riders, sealing the eliminator clash with a six off the final delivery in a nail-biting finish at Mirpur on Tuesday.
The defeat knocked Rangpur Riders out of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL)-2026.
Sylhet needed six runs from the last ball to win, with Chris Woakes at the crease and Rangpur’s Faheem Ashraf bowling. Woakes rose to the occasion, sending a delivery outside off stump sailing over the cover boundary to clinch a dramatic win for Titans.
The victory capped a tense final over and sparked wild celebrations in the Sylhet camp, while Rangpur were left ruing a narrow defeat after staying in contention until the very end.
Batting first, Rangpur Riders were restricted to 111 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. Middle-order batter Mahmudullah top-scored with 33, while Pakistan’s Khushdil Shah contributed 30 off 19 balls, as Rangpur’s top order failed to provide a solid start.
Sylhet’s bowlers put up an impressive display, with Khaled Ahmed claiming four wickets, while Chris Woakes and Nasum Ahmed picked up two wickets each.
In reply, Sylhet Titans also struggled at the top, mirroring Rangpur’s batting woes. Middle-order batter Sam Billings, playing his only match of the tournament, scored 29 off 40 balls to anchor the innings.
For Rangpur, Mustafizur Rahman and Al Islam took two wickets apiece, keeping the contest alive until the dramatic final over.
Earlier in the match, both teams put up a strong fight, setting the stage for a gripping finish that kept spectators on the edge of their seats until the final ball.
