Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said on Thursday it had begun disciplinary proceedings against a board member after remarks that angered players and prompted a boycott threat by the country’s cricketers.
In a media release, the BCB said it had issued a show-cause notice to the director concerned and asked him to submit a written response within 48 hours.
The move followed an ultimatum from the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB), which warned late Wednesday that players would suspend all cricketing activities — including the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League — unless board director and finance committee chairman M. Najmul Islam resigned over comments players said were insulting.
The BCB reiterated its regret over the remarks and said it would deal with the matter “through due process”.
The board also appealed to players to allow the Bangladesh Premier League to continue, describing cricketers as the “main stakeholders and lifeblood” of the competition.
The controversy was triggered by Najmul’s public comments on Bangladesh’s possible withdrawal from the 2026 T20 World Cup and by his social media attack on former captain Tamim Iqbal, which he later deleted.
CWAB had not withdrawn its boycott threat as of Thursday.
