With less than a month to go before the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh cricket finds itself in an uncomfortable situation. In recent weeks, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has written to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the second time, clearly stating that it does not feel comfortable traveling to India to play the tournament. The board has therefore requested that Bangladesh’s matches be relocated to Sri Lanka.
The BCB has explicitly outlined its security concerns about traveling to India for the India-hosted T20 World Cup. Indian media outlet NDTV has reported that the BCB’s latest communication includes an additional new demand.
According to NDTV report, the BCB wants individual security guarantees for every member of the Bangladesh contingent if they travel to India for the World Cup. This would cover not only players, but also coaches, support staff, and officials.
The ICC has presented its comprehensive security plan and proposed several alternative options. However, it has left the final decision to the BCB.
At the same time, the ICC has made it clear that changing the schedule and venues will not be easy, as preparations by broadcasters and organizers are already at an advanced stage.
