Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a major step to decentralise cricket development with the launch of its first regional cricket centre in Sylhet on Saturday, reports the Daily Sun.
The initiative aims to expand playing fields and practice facilities, addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges.
Speaking to reporters, BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul said, “Our core value is to allow everyone to play, and through playing, to become better cricketers. One of the key responsibilities of the Head of Cricket will not be to build stadiums, but to increase playing grounds, improve wickets, and develop better outfields.”
Bulbul also acknowledged the complexity. “You know, establishing these centres is very easy to talk about, but extremely difficult to plan and implement. With 25 directors and 23 departments, it has only been possible through collective effort that we have come this far.”
He added a target for rapid expansion, noting, “For now, our thinking is that within 2026, we will try to achieve as much as possible. There are two considerations—first, you know that up to May, the weather is suitable for cricket. So by May, we will try to establish two more divisions. But by 2026, Insha’Allah, we plan to have offices set up in all eight divisions.”
The launch in Sylhet marks a landmark move by the BCB to strengthen grassroots cricket, promising a more structured and accessible pathway for aspiring cricketers nationwide.
