Dhaka Capitals managed to post 122 in 19.4 overs against Chattogram Royals in the 9th match of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Friday, suffering another dramatic batting collapse similar to the one they endured against Sylhet Titans earlier in the tournament, reports the Daily Sun.
Put in to bat, the Capitals were dismantled by a disciplined and collective bowling performance from the Royals, losing first seven wickets for just 66 runs. Shoriful Islam and Tanvir Islam spearheaded the attack with three wickets each, while Chattogram skipper Shak Mahedi Hasan picked up two. Aamer Jamal claimed one wicket, with the remaining dismissal coming via a run-out.
Dhaka’s innings unravelled rapidly as they slipped down to 46/5 in 8.4 overs before the drinks break. Saif Hassan (1), Zubaid Akbari (2), Usman Khan (21), Shamim Hossain (4) and Mohammad Mithun (8) all departed in quick succession. Shoriful and Tanvir shared four of those wickets, with Mahedi removing the other.
The slide continued as Sabbir Rahman and Imad Wasim were dismissed for identical scores of nine at team totals of 55 and 66 respectively, both falling to the combined efforts of Mahedi and Tanvir. With Dhaka reeling, Nasir Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin attempted a recovery by adding 48 runs for the eighth wicket.
That resistance ended when Shariful returned to dismiss Nasir for 17 at 114, completing his three-wicket haul and leaving Dhaka eight down. The ninth wicket fell at 121 when Amer Jamal, on five, was caught by Mohammad Naim off Taskin Ahmed. The innings concluded at 122, as Salman Mirza was run out for a duck off Mukidul Islam Mugdho’s delivery, one run after the previous dismissal.
Mohammad Saifuddin remained unbeaten on 33, the highest score of the innings, striking four boundaries from 25 deliveries, but his lone effort only helped Dhaka Capitals reach 122 before being bowled out in 19.4 overs.
