Bangladesh’s sports calendar has been revised as federations announced fresh schedules for competitions that were temporarily suspended following the death of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, reports the Daily Sun.
After a brief halt during the period of national mourning, sporting activities are now set to resume in phases across the country.
After nearly a year and a half, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has resumed the Women’s Football League, which began on December 29.
Initially scheduled to conclude on January 30, the league will now end on February 3 following changes to the fixture list. The tournament is being held at a single venue — Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Sipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur — with 11 clubs competing in 55 matches.
Although matches were played on the opening day, the second day’s fixtures were postponed due to the nationwide suspension of sporting events. In response to the former Prime Minister’s passing, BFF had suspended all ongoing tournaments, bringing the seventh edition of the Women’s Football League to a temporary standstill.
As part of the revised schedule, the fixtures originally set for 30 December have been bodily shifted. Three matches — Ansar & VDP FC vs Suddopuskorini Jubo SC (3:30 pm), Kachari Para Akadas Unnayan Shangstha vs Siraj Srity Sangsad (5:45 pm), and Dhaka Rangers FC vs Farashganj SC (8:00 pm) — will now be played on Thursday, 1 January.
The fixture revision has also affected the ongoing Senior Division Football League, with BFF making necessary adjustments to its match calendar.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation has released updated dates for the postponed semifinals of the National Kabaddi Championship 2025 (Men’s and Women’s). The semifinal matches, originally scheduled for December 30, will now be held on 2 January, while the finals have been rescheduled for 3 January.
With revised schedules now confirmed, federations are moving swiftly to resume competitions, aiming to bring the country’s sporting activities back on track following the period of national mourning.
