One of the most precious items in cricket history, Sir Donald Bradman’s Australia Test cap, is set to be auctioned for the very first time. The famous Baggy Green cap, worn by Bradman during the 1947/48 Test series against India, will go under the hammer on Australia Day, January 26, 2026.
Notably, the auction will be conducted by Lloyds Auctions, with bidding starting at just $1, making it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for cricket lovers around the world.
What makes this auction truly special is the story behind the cap. Donald Bradman personally gifted this Australian Test cap to former Indian cricketer Ranga Sohoni during India’s first-ever tour of Australia. Since then, the cap has stayed within Sohoni’s family for more than 75 years.
According to Lloyds Auctions’ Lee Hames, this is a genuine and highly valuable piece of cricket heritage. Its direct connection to Bradman, along with its long and uninterrupted family ownership, makes it one of the most important Bradman-related items ever to be auctioned.
It is worth mentioning that experts believe the cap will attract strong interest from private collectors, museums, institutions, and fans worldwide.
Sir Donald Bradman, widely known as the greatest batter of all time (GOAT), wore this cap during a historic series in which he scored 715 runs in six innings against India. Notably, his overall Test record remains unmatched,6,996 runs in 52 Tests at an astonishing average of 99.94, including 29 centuries.
Bradman’s memorabilia has always fetched high prices. In 2020, his very first Baggy Green cap from 1928 sold for $450,000. The current record for a Baggy Green cap belongs to Shane Warne, whose only Australian Test cap sold for $1,007,500 to support bushfire emergency services.
Born in 1908 in New South Wales, Bradman passed away in 2001 at the age of 92; however, his legacy continues to inspire younger generations.
