One of the finest MMA, kickboxing, boxing and Muay Thai training centres in the country, Zulcan Indoor Arena, was officially inaugurated with a grand opening ceremony on Saturday at Bashundhara Sports City.
Besides, one of the most influential names in combat sports, former Singapore national coach Arvind Lalwani, was present at the event.
Lalwani has been working closely with Zulcan for a long time since his first visit to Bashundhara Sports City in September. Previously describing the facility as “world-class”, he had even stated that Singapore does not have similar infrastructure. Recently, he alongside Zulcan brought WMO (World Muaythai Organisation) in Bangladesh.
Speaking to the media, Lalwani shared details about the latest developments at Zulcan and the additions aimed at bringing everything under one roof.
“Well, the thing is I can tell you for a fact that we are ready now. Previously, there were certain things that were missing, but we've added it on. We're actually going to still add on a lot more stuff. So, from now what you see, you know, we've got the cage, we've got all this equipment over here. We're actually going to bring in more equipment, you know, we're going to be setting up some televisions and all for the new sound system and all that. And as well as, um, we're bringing in treadmills also. So, so we're going to make it a proper, you know a great workout area.”
Sharing his long-term vision, Lalwani said,
“I am with Bashundhara right now, and I will be coming here every month. So, basically, my goal is to build Zulcan into a world-class training facility. At the same time, we're going to be working on promotions as well. And we are bringing, we're going to be bringing in world-class fighters.”
He also highlighted plans for competitive events and further expansion.
“We're going to do boxing promotions, MMA, Muay Thai promotions. In fact, we're going to be going upstairs and then you're going to be taking a look at the arena, which is I would say about 50% done. So, but we're going to be adding more seats. We're going to change to a boxing ring,” he added.
The combat sports veteran, who was trained by the coach of legendary Muhammad Ali, also delivered a message through the media for aspiring athletes and fitness enthusiasts.
“Anybody can come in, kids, teenagers, older people, anyone can come in. It's not just about fighting. It's about keeping fit, you know, putting in the mental focus, the discipline, you know, learning a new art by itself, it will make you better, you know, physically and mentally.”
