Dhaka Capitals assistant coach Mahbub Ali Zaki died on Saturday after collapsing suddenly at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium minutes before his team’s opening match in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), officials said.
The incident occurred shortly after the toss for Dhaka’s first match of the season against Rajshahi Warriors. Players were walking out of the dressing room for their warm-up when Zaki collapsed near the team area.
Team staff and medical personnel immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before he was taken by ambulance to Al Haramain Hospital. He was pronounced dead while being transported.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed the death, reports Daily Sun
“Mahbub Ali Zaki has passed away. I am unable to say anything more at this moment,” said Chowdhury.
The sudden collapse shocked players from both teams, match officials and spectators. Physiotherapists and medical staff from both sides rushed to assist as the situation unfolded in full view of the ground and media.
A source close to the Dhaka team said Zaki had not complained of any health issues prior to the incident.
