Bangladesh cricket team senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin believes the national side has made notable strides in T20 cricket this year, with players now having a clear understanding of their responsibilities, reports the Daily Sun.
Speaking to reporters in Mirpur on Saturday, Salahuddin reflected on Bangladesh’s progress, setbacks and overall development across formats in the 2025 calendar year.
“In T20s, we’ve come fairly close to the progress we aimed for. I won’t say we’ve achieved everything, but whatever success we’ve had this year has mostly come from T20 cricket,” Salahuddin said.
Bangladesh featured in 30 T20Is in 2025, winning 15, losing 14, with one match ending without result. The Tigers also clinched five bilateral series out of the eight they contested, in addition to the Asia Cup in September.
“We played T20 series regularly, one after another, following a clear plan leading up to the World Cup. There’s still room for improvement, but we’ve gotten results from the series we played,” he added.
Salahuddin credited the batting group for showing greater clarity and discipline throughout the year.
“The batters played according to their roles. Sometimes they didn’t, but at least now everyone knows what their role is. Sometimes they performed, sometimes they didn’t, but they understood their job. If they work on those areas over the next two months, the T20 team will be in good shape,” he said.
The senior assistant coach also evaluated the Test and ODI sides. Bangladesh played six Tests in 2025, winning three, losing two and drawing one. In ODIs, they contested 11 matches, managing only three wins against eight defeats.
“The Test team has always had some experienced batters, and I think our Test side is also in a decent place. We’re improving gradually, and results are coming, even if slowly. But in ODIs, we barely play series anymore, and because of that, the results aren’t coming. Plus, the four or five players who carried the ODI side haven’t played a lot of ODIs recently. To fill that gap, we need time. Once the boys gain experience again, I think we’ll start playing better in ODIs too. Next year we have many ODI series, so we might recover quickly,” he concluded.
