Putting an end to all speculation and anticipation, the players’ auction for the 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is finally underway on Sunday at a hotel in the capital, reports the Daily Sun.
A total of 415 cricketers went under the hammer this year, including 158 local and 257 overseas players, with at least 84 expected to secure team contracts.
The auction opened with high drama as Category A opener Naim Sheikh sparked a bidding war involving Chittagong, Sylhet and Rangpur.
Chittagong Royals ultimately secured the left-hander for Tk1.1 crore, more than double his base price of Tk50 lakh.
Star wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das, also in Category A, was bought by Rangpur Riders for Tk70 lakh.
However, one of the biggest surprises of the day came in Category B, where veteran all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad, with the base price of Tk35 lakh remained unsold.
