New BPL franchise Rajshahi Warriors have secured Bangladesh Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto as a direct local signing. He becomes their second domestic recruit, following the earlier inclusion of young opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim, reports the Daily Sun.
Shanto, who hails from Rajshahi, expressed his delight at finally getting the chance to represent his home team. “I always had this regret that I never got the opportunity to play for Rajshahi. So I’m really happy, Alhamdulillah, that this time I will be able to play for Rajshahi,” he said.
The left-handed top-order batter joins the Warriors from Category B. Last season, he featured for Fortune Barishal, scoring 56 runs in five matches. A seasoned BPL campaigner, Shanto made his debut in 2016 and has since played for four different teams. Across 88 matches, he has amassed 1,768 runs at an average of 23.26 and a strike rate of 113.33.
