The 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is scheduled to begin on December 19, featuring six franchises, BPL Governing Council secretary Iftekhar Rahman Mithu confirmed at a press conference held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on 26 November.
The league has expanded from five to six teams to create more opportunities for local cricketers. Mithu explained that with five teams, scheduling was challenging as it was difficult to hold two matches per day.
Noakhali Express will join the BPL as the new franchise, alongside existing teams Dhaka Capitals, Chattogram Royals, Rajshahi Warriors, Rangpur Riders, and Sylhet Titans.
“One new development is that we plan to start the tournament in Sylhet. The final is likely to be held on January 16. We are also organising a short opening ceremony on December 17 in Dhaka,” Mithu said.
Additionally, the BPL will revive its players’ auction system after 12 years, with the auction scheduled for November 30.
