Bangladesh are searching for a new leader for Test cricket as Najmul Hossain Shanto stepped down from the role following the home series against Sri Lanka in July, reports the Daily Sun.
The media has learned that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is considering current T20I skipper Litton Das as a potential candidate for the position, with Najmul having already declined to continue as Test captain.
Speaking to reporters in Chattogram on Sunday, ahead of the first T20I against the West Indies, Litton said he has not yet been approached by the board but would welcome the opportunity to lead the Test team.
“It’s very difficult. So far, I don’t know anything about it. If they feel I’m capable, obviously they will have a conversation with me. Let’s see what their decision is,” Litton said.
“As a player, captaining the Test side is a big achievement. I’m sure no player would say no to it. But so far, I haven’t heard anything from the cricket board,” he added.
Litton previously led Bangladesh in a one-off Test against Afghanistan in 2023, which the hosts won. Under his leadership, Bangladesh have also claimed four consecutive T20I series victories this year.
