Bangladesh head coach Javier Cabrera has praised the leadership within his squad ahead of their away clash against Hong Kong, China, in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.
Despite a long journey from Dhaka, Cabrera said the team has been focusing on recovery and light training sessions, and expressed satisfaction with their preparation and morale.
Cabrera singled out midfielder Hamza Choudhury for his growing influence, describing him as “already one of the captains” for his leadership both on and off the pitch.
The coach also commended the guidance of senior players Jamal Bhuyan, Topu Barman, and Sohel Rana, noting that Bangladesh is fortunate to have several natural leaders in the squad.
“Hamza, for us, is already one of the captains. He is a leader on the pitch and off the pitch, a player who has been guiding his teammates from the beginning. But we are also lucky to have captains like Jamal, Topu, Sohel; all of them are captains,” Cabrera said.
Reflecting on the narrow 4–3 home defeat to Hong Kong, Cabrera acknowledged minor mistakes but felt the overall strategy was sound. With a few tactical adjustments, he believes his side is ready to push for a positive result in the return fixture on 14 October.
