After being whitewashed in the ODI series, the Tigers made a stunning comeback in the T20 series, securing their first-ever series victory in this format on West Indian soil. They achieved this feat with one match to spare.
On Wednesday, Bangladesh faced a tough situation in the second T20 match. By the 15th over, they were struggling at 80 for 6. However, the last five overs yielded 49 runs, including a crucial 35 off 17 balls by Shamim Hossain.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, captain Liton Das said, "I’m very happy. Not just me, the entire nation is happy. We were waiting for a victory like this. When I faced the first ball, it was very tough to bat. Thanks to Shamim as he batted really well."
Defending a modest total of 129 runs was not easy by any means. However, Taskin Ahmed struck twice in the third over, giving Bangladesh the upper hand. The bowlers continued to take wickets at regular intervals, eventually bowling out the West Indies for 102. Captain Liton didn’t forget to acknowledge the bowlers’ efforts.
“Credit must be given to bowlers. Whoever came to bowl brought wickets. It was a total team effort. At that moment, we were in a great flow. We have to play good cricket once again,” said Liton.
Player of the Match Shamim Hossain Patwari expressed his emotions, saying, "I’m very happy. I’ve returned to the national team after a long time, and I’m thrilled. My role in the team is to hit the ball and be the finisher. Over the past few months, I’ve worked hard."
Earlier in the day, the Tigers couldn’t post a big total, managing 129 runs in their 20 overs after losing the toss at the Arnos Vale Stadium in Kingstown. However, their bowlers rose to the occasion, restricting the West Indies to just 102 runs in pursuit of 130, securing a 27-run victory.
