Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Rangpur Riders skipper Nurul Hasan has said it’s a great opportunity to take part in the upcoming Global Super League (GSL) while adding that it’s a big responsibility as they will represent the country in the global event.
Rangpur Riders are set to become the first Bangladeshi franchise to feature in an overseas league in the inaugural edition of the GSL in Guyana, starting on November 27.
“I feel this is a huge opportunity for our players to participate in a global tournament like this, which would also be highly competitive. As a franchise, we are getting the chance to represent Bangladesh outside of home, this is a huge honour for us,” Nurul told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.
“At the same time, we also have a responsibility as we will also represent our country in the competition. We will try 100 per cent from our end to achieve something good so that we get more such opportunities in the future for the betterment of our cricket,” he added.
The five-team competition will also feature Caribbean Premier League team Guyana Amazon Warriors, Pakistan Super League's Lahore Qalanders, England's Hampshire, and New Zealand's Victoria.
Rangpur Riders, one-time BPL champions, will begin their campaign against Hampshire on November 28.
Shanian Taneem, team director of Rangpur, echoed the same sentiment while adding that they have bolstered their strength by including Pakistan’s Khushdil Shah in their squad.
“Normally we have a 14-member squad but we have added Khusdil Shah of Pakistan who will also be part of our BPL squads,” said Shanian.
“We have represented Rangpur Riders so far and it’s a great privilege that we will carry the flag of Bangladesh in the tournament we hope the whole nation will support us and if we can do well I feel we can gain a lot,” he added.
