The National Sports Council (NSC) announced ad hoc committees for the country’s nine sports federations after dissolving their executive committees.
NSC issued a notice on Thursday mentioning the names of those federations – hockey, athletics, chess, kabaddi, basketball, tennis, squash, bridge, and billiards and snooker.
Hockey Federation got an 18-member committee with Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan as president and Lieutenant Colonel Md Reazul Islam (retd) general secretary.
Athletics Federation got a 19-member committee with Major General D Nayeem Ashfaque Chowdhury as president and Md Shah Alam as general secretary.
Chess Federation got a 14-member committee with its new President Syed Suja Uddin Ahmed and General Secretary D Taibur Rahman Sumon.
Kabaddi Federation got an 18-member committee where the new president is IGP Md Mainul Islam and new general secretary is SM Newaz Sohag.
Basketball Federation got its new President Dr Shamim Newaz and General Secretary Major Mohammad Atiqul Hafiz (retd) in the 16-member committee.
Tennis Federation got a 19-member committee led by President Abdul Hai Sarker and General Secretary Istiaque Ahmed.
Squash Federation got a 15-member committee where the new president is Major General Md Hasan Uz Zaman and the new general secretary is Brigadier General GM Quamrul Islam (retd).
Bridge Federation got a 17-member committee with president Sayed Mahbubur Rahman and general secretary Naimul Hasan.
Billiards and Snooker Federation got a 15-member committee with president Brigadier General Sarkar Muhammad Shamsuddin and general secretary Riasat Karim Bhuiyan.
After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led authoritarian government on 5 August, most of the country’s federations and associations faced leadership vacuums as most of the executive committee members fled the country or went into hiding, fearing reprisals for their involvement with Awami League's politics.
There were also some Awami League ministers, members of parliaments (MPs), and government officials on the erstwhile executive committees of these federations and associations.
