Inter Miami reached the Major League Soccer (MLS) playoffs for the first time, setting high expectations. Lionel Messi, in excellent form, had energized the team with his goals.
However, despite his efforts, the team ultimately fell short and was defeated.
In the opening round of the playoffs, Miami suffered a 3-2 defeat to Atlanta, sealing their elimination from the tournament.
As a result, Messi's side bowed out, while Atlanta progressed to the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Earlier, Miami had won 2-1 against Atlanta in their first playoff clash. A victory in the second leg on November 2 would have secured a spot in the final four.
However, after back-to-back defeats, the team was eliminated, bringing an end to Messi's season.
On Sunday, Miami took the lead in the 17th minute with a goal from Matías Rojas. However, just three minutes later, Atlanta surged ahead with a brace from Jamal Thiaré.
In the second half, Messi brought Miami level with a brilliant header.
But in the 76th minute, a goal from Bartek Slisz sealed Miami's fate, as they were unable to recover and were eliminated from the playoffs.
