Taijul Islam, the ace Left-arm spinner in the Bangladesh bowling lineup, became the second Bangladeshi bowler to reach the milestone of 200-wicket after Shakib Al Hasan, reports BSS.
His landmark moment came on Day 1 of the first Test against South Africa when he dismissed Ryan Rickelton as his fourth scalp.
While Shakib reached the landmark of 200 wickets in his 54th match, Taijul took fewer matches(48) and thus making him the fastest to 200-wicket haul for Bangladesh.
Offspinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz is in the pipeline to complete 200-wicket. However, he won't be the fastest one as he is already in his 48th match, same as Taijul.
Taijul indeed brought Bangladesh back into the contest after the batters let the team down. Opting to bat first, Bangladesh were bowled out for just 106.
However, when it looked like South Africa would take control of the Test, Taijul helped Bangladesh to recover to some extent as his 5-wicket haul made sure that Bangladesh still has a chance to fight.
At the end of Day 1 of the first test South Africa's score is 140-6, leading by 34 runs.
