Bangladesh has announced the appointment former Pakistan leg-spinner and World Cup winner Mushtaq Ahmed as the spin-bowling coach for the men’s national cricket team on Tuesday.
He will join the squad before their training camp in preparation for a five-match T20 series against Zimbabwe on November and will continue in the role through the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States.
Bangladesh has been seeking a spin-bowling coach since Sri Lankan Rangana Herath left his position in November, with local coach Sohel Islam temporarily filling the role during the recent series against Sri Lanka.
Mushtaq has extensive coaching experience, having worked with England from 2008 to 2014, the West Indies from 2018 to 2019, and Pakistan from 2020 to 2022. He also served as a bowling consultant for Pakistan between 2014 and 2016, reports The Business Standard.
“It is a great honor for me to be part of the Bangladesh cricket team as a spin-bowling coach,” the 53-year-old Mushtaq stated. “I look forward to this role and am eager to share my knowledge with the players, who are very receptive to coaching. I believe they are one of the most dangerous teams and have the talent and resources to beat anyone. I will work to instill that confidence in them.”
Bangladesh will host Zimbabwe for five T20 matches from May 3 to 12 before traveling to the United States for a three-match series against the hosts and the T20 World Cup.
