BNP has adopted a strict zero-tolerance policy against any form of criminal activity or indiscipline within the party, taking swift action against more than 5,000 leaders and activists in the past nine months.
The latest action came after Jubo Dal leader Monir Hossain and his associates vandalized a liquor bar in Mohakhali for not receiving VIP service, also allegedly humiliating women. Monir was immediately expelled from Jubo Dal and stripped of his primary membership. The party called on law enforcement to take appropriate legal action against him.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi reiterated at a press conference that the party will not spare anyone involved in illegal, immoral, or violent activities. “We take immediate organizational action whenever any such incident occurs. No one will be spared,” he warned.
With the 13th national parliamentary election approaching, acting chairman Tarique Rahman has instructed party leaders to strictly maintain discipline, especially after his recent meeting with Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus in London. Tarique has made it clear that even dedicated party leaders will face action if they commit any wrongdoing.
According to BNP central office sources, the party has taken organizational action against more than 5,000 leaders and activists for the crime of party chaos in the last 9 months. Although BNP is against these organizationally, there are allegations that local leaders and activists are joining the mob. Due to which the party is facing criticism nationwide.
The leaders claim that BNP is working directly against these. Recently, two people were killed within a few hours in a conflict between two BNP factions over control of an auto stand in Bandar Upazila of Narayanganj.
Since the incident involved a breach of party discipline and criminal offenses, BNP has taken organizational measures, including forming an investigation committee from the party’s central office and dismissing several people as the offenses were proven.
Meanwhile, on May 28, a leader of the Swechchhasebak Dal named Kalim Uddin was killed in a clash between two BNP factions in Sitakunda, Chattogram. A worker of the Jubo Dal named Shakhawat was injured. They were attacked with sharp weapons. BNP has immediately taken organizational measures against those involved in the incident. Whenever such incidents occur, the party is taking action.
Tarique Rahman is keeping a close eye on everything in the country, starting from the capital. He has also put in place a strong monitoring system. As part of that, the party's central office is taking rapid action as soon as a complaint is received. Besides, if evidence is found, expulsion is being done, or a show cause notice is being sent.
No member of the BNP National Standing Committee or the leader of the National Executive Committee is being left out of this list.
BNP and its affiliated organizations have continued to take action against their leaders and activists on charges of involvement in it and violation of organizational discipline after August 5. At the same time, the party is taking steps to prevent anarchy and restore peace in the minds of the people. In addition, the party founded by martyred President Ziaur Rahman is working to help the families of those killed in the July uprising and provide good treatment to the injured.
Mirza Abbas, a member of the party's National Standing Committee, told Bangladesh Pratidin, “No one wants to easily expel a long-time worker from the party or suspend his membership. When an expulsion order is issued against a leader or worker, it is given after considering everything and knowingly and logically. Which is a warning sign for others. Hopefully, others will be careful with this.”
